counseling to break bad habits

Bad habits are so hard to break. I was a smoker for about 30 years and couldn't seem to break the habit no matter what I tried. Every now and then, I was able to quite for a few weeks, but then, when I started smoking again, I smoked far more than I did before I quit. It wasn't until I accepted the fact that my smoking was a real problem and reached out for professional help with quitting. I started going to counseling and learned a lot about my bad habits and why it was so hard for me to give them up. This blog is all about counseling to break bad habits.

Parenting Classes For Military Families

Blog

Military members are encouraged to keep every aspect of their life under control. Service members are provided with many valuable resources to help them, and most of these resources are provided at no cost to the member and their family. One great resource available to military members to help them get through the stresses of military life is parenting classes. Parenting classes can benefit every type of family and every circumstance that comes up.

Not Just for Families in Trouble

Some people may have the mistaken belief that parenting classes are only for "bad parents," or that parenting classes are meant to help parents learn how to parent children with behavioral issues or other special needs. However, this is not the case at all. Even the best parents can benefit from parenting classes. These classes teach coping skills to parents, and give them strategies for passing healthy coping skills to their children. Classes also focus on communication, reinforcing good behavior and eliminating bad behaviors, as well as teaching responsibility and other life skills to children. In addition, parenting classes that are geared toward military families also help children and parents deal with the stresses of constant trips and deployments.

Career Repercussions

Some military families won't even consider parenting classes, as they are afraid this will hurt the service member's career or chances at promotion. However, this is most certainly not true. All branches of the military are very supportive of military families, and commanders are briefed on the importance of parenting classes for unit and member readiness. Many units offer parenting classes and other resources to members and their families to help keep stress down in the family and allow military members to focus on the mission.

Options & Costs

There are many options available for military members and military families who wish to take advantage of parenting classes. Some military units and military installations provide these classes on military installations free of charge to members and families. Tricare, the military health insurance provider, also offers parenting classes and counseling to military families through approved providers, at no cost to the family. Organizations like MilitaryOneSource offers resources for members to obtain free parenting classes online or in person. There are many resources that provide counseling, classes and therapy which are geared specifically to military families. These resources will help strengthen the military family and give family members coping skills so the military member can focus on serving.

If you have more questions about parenting classes, talk to an organization like Pregnancy Resources.
